Tami Durham, having athletic and artistic parents, started very young competing professionally as a water skier and ice skater. She began touring with various ice skating and water ski shows performing for audiences world-wide. Throughout her career, she has worked extensively in the entertainment industry on stage and behind the scenes with numerous dance companies, theatre and movie productions.
Like many professional athletes, Tami has been plagued with on-going knee problems and neck pain. Requiring a workout with little or no impact, she needed strength building, toning and flexibility. In the late 1990's, while working with professional dancers, Tami learned about Pilates. Though not widely known at the time, she was able to find a local studio teaching the Classical Method. This became, for her, a passion and the perfect discipline.
Pilates was a completely different type of exercise. Not only did her body begin to change, her mindset toward what she had always considered an effective and worthwhile fitness regime began. The benefits were numerous.
The love of the exercise and the difference in her well being prompted Tami to study and train to add Pilates to her professional coaching repertoire. Tami has been a student in Classical Pilates since 2000 and it remains a daily part of her physical activities. She is Comprehensively Certified and dedicated to continuing her Pilates education on both personal and professional levels. Along the way, Tami also discovered the satisfaction of working with those who are not athletically inclined. She has helped eliminate the many aches and pains that is a natural progression of aging. The young and the young-at-heart have benefitted from Tami's instruction.
Tami opened Studio 17 in 2013. In the comfort and safety of a private studio setting, she is committed to helping her clients acquire healthy habits that are safe and effective. Not only is Pilates beneficial, it is fun.
Many individuals have influenced and helped Tami during the course of her career. She is inspired by others to share her knowledge and expertise for up-and-coming instructors as they pursue their dream of their own health and wellness businesses. She shares Studio 17 to provide on-going training and educational opportunities to instructors in the community.
A life-long resident of Greenville, SC, Tami has a husband and daughter whom she adores. She, and her family, also has a growing number of much loved animals they have rescued from various situations. In addition to her duties at Studio 17, she is Chief Operating Officer of her family's business, Ice Rink Engineering and Manufacturing, and remains a choreographer and figure skating performance coach.
